2012 FNB Whisky Live Festival Special Bottling
A very limited, exceedingly lucky, number of visitors – perhaps 370 at most – will have the opportunity to fill their own, unique, 2012 FNB Whisky Live Festival bottle with a very rare 19 year old GlenDronach single cask at the GlenDronach stand. Selling for R900.00 at the festival, they are valued at R2 000.00 and are sure to increase in value over the years to come.
Johnnie Walker Platinum Launch
Johnnie Walker have recently launched the new Platinum Label and a “One Bottle” liquor store, which housed the first bottle of Johnnie Walker Platinum Label, signed by Master Blender, Jim Beveridge. This will be on taste at the festival.
Compass Box Scotch Whisky Company
True to form, the controversial Compass Box Scotch Whisky offers another exciting, ‘out the box’, limited edition: Flaming Heart. Taste it before its official release at the festival! John Glaser, the maverick master blender will be on hand in Durban and Joburg to sign your bottle.
Springbank Single Malt
The Springbank Distillery is truly unique – it is the oldest independent family-owned distillery in Scotland; the only distillery in Scotland to carry out the full production process on the one site, and the only distillery in Scotland to produce three different single malts, using three different production methods. The Glen Grant Distillation Zone
Glen Grant has always credited its distillery’s tall, slender copper stills for the unique style of its single malts. In the Glen Grant Distillation Zone at the Whisky Live Festival, Dennis Malcolm, Master Distiller at Glen Grant, explains why.
Master Distiller, Dennis Malcolm of Glen Grant, will host a series of interactive, informal workshops, showing patrons the significance of copper stills in the whisky distillation process. Did you know, for example, that the shape of the stills and the conversation the spirit has with the copper can contribute as much as 30% towards the final flavours in your glass? Well now you do. Learn more fascinating facts; don’t miss the Glen Grant Distillation Zone!
The Schweppes Art of Whisky Cocktail Making Zone in Johannesburg and Cape Town
Did you know that while in the UK whisky is traditionally drunk straight, in Southern Europe up to 90 per cent of whisky is mixed? Back by popular demand, the Schweppes Art of Whisky Cocktail Making Zone workshops will show patrons impressive moves to use while rustling up sensational cocktails. Don’t blame us if they keep coming back for more! Six free workshops will be hosted each evening, operating on a first come, first serve basis.
The Pick n Pay Canapés & Whisky Pairing Zone
The Pick n Pay Canapés & Whisky Pairing Zone offers food for the soul, offering a taste sensation second to none by showcasing the art of pairing the sublime flavours of whisky with delectable canapés. International food and whisky guru Martine Nouet will be co-hosting these hands-on whisky canapé cocktail parties with Pick n Pay chefs showing visitors how to make three canapés using fresh Pick n Pay ingredients, and which whiskies to pair them with for the ultimate cocktail party. Even better, despite being impressive, they are easy enough to re-create at home!
The Valpré Water & Whisky Sommelier Course in Cape Town and Johannesburg
How much is too much? When it comes to water, Paula Howse, the Valpré Sommelier, will help demystify the art of mixing water and whisky. Learn what makes Valpré Spring Water the perfect addition to your dram, how much to add to your tipple, how to pour it into your glass and what guidelines to follow to savour every subtle nuance of flavour found in every single sip.
Note on the educational Zones and/or Workshops
Each of the educational zones and/or workshops operate separately within the Tasting Hall and runs two to three workshop experiences for between 20 and 30 people at a time on a first come, first serve basis.
FNB Whisky Live Festival Facts
The annual FNB Whisky Live Festival return for its 10th Anniversary to The Cape Town International Convention Centre from the 3rd – 5th October 2012 (18h00 to 22h00 daily), the International Convention Centre Durban from the 1st – 2nd November 2012 (18h00 to 22h00 daily), and the Sandton Convention Centre from the 7th – 9th November (18h00 – 22h00 daily) for its showcase of whiskies from around the world.
A variety of ticket options are available for purchase via the website – www.whiskylivefestival.co.za. The organisers suggest you book early to avoid disappointment. There will also be deli-style food available to complete your “great night out” experience.
The FNB Whisky Live Festival promotes responsible drinking. No persons under the age of 18 years old will be allowed into the Tasting Hall. Designated driver tickets are available with discounted food vouchers and a bottle of Valpré mineral water included in the ticket price. Various chauffeur drive services and drive responsibly initiatives will be on hand to ensure that everyone in your party is able to have a good time. Part of the ticket proceeds will continue to be donated to The Foundation for Alcohol Related Research.
