“The spirit is still strong!”  That’s the news about Whisky magazine from its publisher, Integrated Media owner Shayne Dowling.

“It’s like the Mark Twain quote: ‘Reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated…’,” Dowling said. “Contrary to reports of its demise, we are continuing to publish Whisky magazine. The frequency of publication will be reduced from six issues a year to four but this is a strategic move and will be accompanied by a design tweak as well.”

Dowling said Whisky magazine would in fact be ramped up, containing more content, new and improved design and more pages as a result of going quarterly. “We were of the opinion that after 18 months of publication it was time to reassess our strategy as well as the look and feel of the mag. The idea is that we give our readers more – more quality, more content and more time to vicariously enjoy the product.”

Part of this strategic shift has been necessitated by the addition of a new title – Cheers – to the Integrated Media stable. “We are really proud of the fact that we are publishing Cheers, a liquor-themed title, for TOPS at SPAR and the response to the first issue has been really positive.”

The next issue of Whisky will hit the shelves and counters in October, just ahead of the Cape Town staging of the Whisky Live festival and will be a bumper issue containing a wealth of coverage of what to expect at the whisky event of the year.

“Our editor, Fiona McDonald, and tasting guru Dave Hughes are also visiting distilleries in Scotland in the next few weeks so will feed back some of their stories of travels in Islay, Skye, Speyside and even the Edinburgh Tattoo!”
